Gennaro `Gerry` Zaffina
, 67, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2014, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

 

He was the beloved husband of Giovanna (Mastroianni) Zaffina for 42 years. Gerry was born April 6, 1946, in Sambiase, Italy, son of Giovanna (Guadagnuolo) Zaffina and of the late Michele Zaffina who preceded him in death on September 11, 2013. Gerry served his country with the US Army. He was employed by the City of Torrington with the Water Pollution Plant until his retirement




 

 He was a Torrington Youth Soccer Coach for 20 years, as well as a Referee for 14 years. He was a former member of the Torrington Elk`s Lodge #372, a member of the Torrington Area Parkinson`s Support Group, a member of the St. Peter Holy Name Society, and a communicant of St. Peter Church. He enjoyed cooking, making wine, and especially spending time with his family. In addition to his mother and his devoted wife, he is survived by one son, Michael Zaffina and his wife Beth-Ann of Wethersfield, CT; two daughters, Daniela Sturm and her husband Noam, Sabrina Zaffina both of West Hartford, CT; one brother, Peter Zaffina and his wife Barbara of Torrington; one sister, AnnaMaria Chiaravalloti and her husband Franco of Torrington; four grandchildren, Gabriela Sturm, Nadia Zaffina, Nicolas Zaffina, Lucas Sturm, as well as many extended family members in the United States and Italy. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2014, with the cortege leaving at 10:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington to St. Peter Church, 107 East Main St., Torrington, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Friends are encouraged to meet directly at the church. Entombment will follow in St. Peter Mausoleum. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home.
