About Us
Torrington Area Parkinsons Support GroupThe Northwestern Connecticut Torrington Area Parkinson's Support Group welcomes people with Parkinson's disease and their care partners, their family and friends, and other interested parties to participate in monthly meetings at the Sullivan Senior Center at 88 East Albert Street in Torrington.
Join Our Monthly Meetings
Meetings run 10 AM to noon and include an educational component, business announcements, exercise for people with Parkison's (PWP) and a support group for care partners. ( check our calendar)
Meetings include speakers from health care professions and local support services organizations, as well as separate group sessions for both the caregiver and caretaker.

ABOUT THE WALK ON SEPTEMBER 15TH
Please bring to Saturday's meeting any gift certificates or gift cards you have garnered for the raffle. I'd like to know what the item is, its value, who donated it and who solicited it. I will bring some notes to use as thank yous for the people from whom you got prizes.
If you have any items for the raffle, I'd like you to let me know what they are, but I'll ask that you bring them to the walk yourself as my car is already full.
It's not too late to gather raffle prizes, just please keep me posted. I will probably print tickets for the items around Wednesday 9/13.
We'll also need baked goods for our bakery table. Items should be wrapped/bagged in $1.00 packages. More expensive items might sell, but remember, we're going to be out in the sun (we hope) all day.
We need muscle. Folks to help Don Moore and Pete Anderheggen on Friday to load the flatbed and on Monday to unload at Expert Rental. We also need muscle to move tents on Thursday/Friday at City Hall. Bill Tierney might bring a friend but it wouldn't hurt to have another pair of arms to hoist tents up the stairs. If I were to build a new CIty Hall, it would have an elevator at all levels!
Feel free to bring your registration forms and payments to the meeting on Saturday. Those who register by August 30 may get a free t-shirt.
As always, the snack table at our meeting is only as good as the food brought to it. Hint hint.

The 13th Annual Walk in the Woods for Parkinson's
Sunday, September 15, 2024 @ White Memorial Conservation Center, Litchfield CT.
Registration is (minimum) $20.00 per person for those over the age of 12. Register by August 30th to receive a free tee shirt at the walk.
Register online or by mail. Send completed registrations with your donations to TAPSG, PO Box 521, Torrington, CT 06790.

Did You Know?
- Every 9 minutes an individual is diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease
- 1 in 10 people will have Parkinson's
- There is no “definitive test” that can confirm Parkinson's disease, except after death
- Parkinson's is not just your "grandparent's" disease or for "old" people
- Currently there is "no cure" for Parkinson's
- Medication can substitute for the missing dopamine, but it is only a temporary solution
- There are 60,000 new cases of Parkinson's Disease a year
- The total cost to the nation is estimated to exceed $6 Billion annually
- Without more federal funding for research to find a cure for Parkinson's, the numbers of Parkinson patients will only increase each year
Free Exercise Program For Members
Exercise is the only thing known to slow disease progression. To that end, TAPSG offers an exercise program free of charge to members. A physician's referral and pre-screening by Hartford Health Care's PT staff is required before beginning the program.
